Nenshou! For Girls - Introduction and Instructions

Hi, Terry here bringing to you a new (abs-building and translation) project. I call it...

LET'S PLAY: NENSHOU! FOR GIRLS

Image not mine. I only borrowed it from another reviewer's blog entry.

INTRODUCTION

A brief intro, this is the second of such games from an Japanese app developer CREATIVE FREAKS. The first of the series was targeted for males, featuring a love interest cum fitness coach, and worked under the same dynamics. (Interestingly enough, this app has enraged several about the sexism and verbal abuse this game features. Upon trying it out, I don't think it's that abusive. =/ The guy even praises you. It's a tsundere kind of love narrow-minded people don't get. XD)

There are three dateable characters in this app, but at the start, you're only introduced to the first guy. In this case, it's Katsuragi Kei who happens to be voiced by the one and only Namikawa Daisuke (most recently Egawa Takuma in Baby Steps, less recently Italy from Hetalia, Tobari-sensei from Nabari no Ou, and well, Ootori Choutarou from N/Prince of Tennis).

The other boys you'll find available in the later episodes are Maizono Touma (CV: Kimura Ryouhei -- KnB's Kise Ryouta, Magi's Judal, Tokyo Raven's Touji) and Shiba Ryuji (CV: Konishi Katsuyuki -- DiaLovers's Reiji, DRRR!!'s Tanaka-san, Hetalia's Canada/America).

The story follows a slightly debu (fat/obese) heroine who's attending the Ootori School of the Performing Arts...on her journey to, you said it, lose weight.

Now let's move on to the set-up.

SET-UP

At the start of the game, you have to configure your 'character'. The screen looks like this:

Censored for privacy. ww
Below the Sensor Level panel, there's another panel for 'Language', but since there's no English port yet, the only option is Japanese for now.

The Alarm feature sets an alert at a set time. Basically, if you're using your smartphone, your screen will be taken over by a gorgeous bishie reminding you to exercise. You can choose among the three, but only Katsuragi-kun was available at that time.

As for Difficulty, I haven't quite determined if it's for the exercise severity or your trainer's strictness. I set it to soft cause I'm a delicate young lady. ww

The sensor is a cool feature by the way, if your device supports it. More on that in the section below.

HOW TO PLAY

The prologue goes on to introduce the school, your reason for enrolling, and shows you this bishie dude that looks like that character you drew for that manga you made in middle school (
who also has a similar name). Katsuragi Kei tells you you'd actually look pretty if you lost some weight and blah. Then he proceeds to let you lie down on the floor for sit-ups. Then the mechanics (for sit-ups) are shown~

Once you got the simple instructions, you start pumping some muscle! For the prologue, you need 5 reps.

This one is taken from the training mode, not episode mode. But they're more or less like this.
You've got pretty boy Katsuragi holding your legs down while he counts down with every sit-up. I myself find this very handy, especially cause I tend to lose count and have this saigomadegamandekinai anxiety when I'm close to finishing.

After the 5 reps, you get another cutscene. Then when you finish the prologue chapter, the results of your workout are shown. But before that, you get a pop-up telling you that you unlocked a new chapter (School or Eating, which is more important?) as well as new voice clips (more on this below).

Dunno how accurate it is, but I'm glad I burned, like, 3% of the calories I got from breakfast. =D

Then, you'll be asked if you want to return to the title screen. Then you get another pop-up asking you if you want to Tweet your achievement. Whichever you choose, you'll be taken to the main menu after.

NAVIGATION

Alright, sit tight, cause I'm going to show how the game goes after you finish the introductory prologue.

This is the Title Screen.

Sorry, doing manual editing using PicCollage on my N5.

  • Episode Select. Lets you choose from the different scenarios. More episodes are unlocked with every episode you complete. I believe the intensity of the workout will increase gradually, requiring more and more reps for completion.
  • Training. Only the abs workout is available for now. Under this menu, you can choose from Practice (where you can set the number of reps and time durations), Free (where you do as many reps as you want, counting up), and Costume Change (where you can choose your trainer -- more on this below).
  • Collection. Has four tabs on top. The first three are for the three guys, but only Katsuragi-kun's is available for mine. The fourth tab is for the CGs. Under the individual tabs, you have voice clips of him cheering you on...or insulting you. (But the ratio is a healthy 4:1, good/neutral to mean/mildly offensive.)  Also, some clips have a toggle switch, so you can choose if you want to hear them or not. ^^
  • Add-on Content. You can purchase additional voice packs, costumes, and features (calendar with statistics) from here. Apparently, only the Prologue and Chapter 1 are fully voiced. You'll have to shell out to hear their bishie voices in the later chapters. Speaking of chapters, there are 11 (12, with the prologue) featured. I believe you can play through all of them, and only the dialogue voices have to be paid for.
  • User Profile. This is where you can change the info you entered when you first started the app. You also have a tab for past purchases.
  • Other Apps. Takes you to a list of free apps.

CONCLUSION/INSIGHTS

...I wonder how many calories I burned sitting down with this guide. xD

Wrapping up, I hardly find this offensive or sexist. The goal of the game is to have you work out and have a healthy body, and you've got smexy 2D bishies guiding you and supporting you (more than your friends who judge you for engaging in such a weight loss practice xD). Katsuragi-kun isn't that brutal. Hey, the worst he's said was "Hey, fatty", and that's only one among the several "Good job!"s and "You did well today!"s. Sure, he comments that "You'd be prettier if you lost weight", but, hey, don't most people think that? UwU

Putting my med student shoes on, it's good to exercise and maintain a low lipid count. Being obese just increases your risk of developing more diseases and problems you wouldn't want to mess with. Losing weight the healthy way can be done by consuming only what you need and when you need. Did you know a 1750 kcal accumulated surplus of your daily requirement lets you gain half a pound?

And yeah, don't forget to drink water. ^^

EDIT: I realize that it's going to be released in English soon, so this is all I can give. I did translate till Episode 2, but let's all be patient and sit tight while waiting for the official release at the Play Store nearest you~ ^^
